The construction of roads, highways, runways, embankments, reclamation, river and shore erosion protection, stabilization against landslides, pollution containment and landfills, would be some examples of where geosynthetics are used in substantial quantities. The objective in using geosynthetics in such works is variable, and includes the improvement of the strength, separation, stability or permeability of the soil structure, or containment.
