Geosythetic Clay Liner (GCL) is the newest addition of geosynthetic materials from Emas Kiara.

GCL is a reinforced geosynthetic liner consisting of a layer of sodium bentonite being encapsulated between a woven and a nonwoven geotextiles which are needle punched on stitch in regular intervals through the clay and fabric.

Functions of Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)

GCL are hydraulic barriers made of clay bonded to a layer or layers of geosynthetics.

Bentonite, because has low permeability and high swelling capacity, is the preferred clay component of geosynthetic clay liner. GCL are used to substitutes compacted clay liners as it providing significant advantages in cost, constructability and performance.

GCL are now in surface impoundments, secondary containment facilities, landfills, pond and lake applications, and other applications where compacted clay liners have been traditionally used.

The geosynthetic clay liner does not require any particular orientation for base lining or flat area. However, for side-slope application the woven side of the GCL should be placed down to maximized the shear strength characteristics.
